70-year-old dies of West Nile fever in Skopje; tenth victim
Patient from Aerodrom died after over 50 days in hospital; seven are hospitalized now, two in critical condition.
A 70-year-old man has died from West Nile fever, authorities at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases in Skopje confirmed, marking the tenth fatality linked to the virus in the country.
The patient passed away over the weekend after more than 50 days of treatment at the clinic. He was a resident of the Aerodrom neighbourhood of Skopje.
Current situation at the clinic
According to Clinic for Infectious Diseases director Fadil Cana, there are seven patients currently admitted with West Nile virus, two of whom are in critical condition.
Three days ago the clinic registered another case, bringing the total number of people treated there for West Nile fever to 68.
Health officials have now recorded ten deaths attributed to the virus across the country. Medical teams at the clinic continue to monitor the admitted patients and provide supportive care.
