Police officer stabbed in Kratovo — 40-year-old suspect faces proposal for detention

The Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Kumanovo has opened an investigation and asked a court to order pretrial detention for a suspect in an attack on a police officer, citing Article 383, paragraph 3 in connection with paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

Details of the incident

Prosecutors say a 40-year-old man from Kratovo attacked law-enforcement personnel on September 11 while they were carrying out public security tasks related to preventing crime. The attack left one police officer with serious injuries.

According to the charge, two police officers forced entry and opened a locked door to the room where the suspect was located. The suspect then assaulted the officers and, with a knife, inflicted serious bodily harm on one of them — a stab wound and a laceration, the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Kumanovo reported.

Considering the risk of flight and the possibility that the suspect could repeat the offence, the prosecutor submitted a proposal for pretrial detention to the judge handling the preliminary proceedings.

The investigation remains ongoing while the court reviews the prosecutor's motion. No further procedural decisions have been announced yet.
