Slavcho Poposki warns of temperatures above 20°C, strong south wind and "dirty rain"

Meteorologist Slavcho Poposki warns that North Macedonia will see a marked warm spell in the second week of November, with daytime temperatures climbing above 20°C, strong southerly winds and renewed periods of rain expected across the country.

Atlantic air, gusty south wind and unstable conditions

Poposki says the change is driven by reinforced southern airflow bringing warmer, more humid Atlantic air over the Balkans between November 9 and 16. "Temperatures above the November average, which will climb above 20 degrees, a strong south wind with gusts over 60 to 70 kilometers per hour, and new showers are brought by the second week of November to the Balkans and to North Macedonia," he said.

Although temperatures will be well above the seasonal norm, the forecaster stressed that the weather will not be stable. New rainfall episodes are expected and some areas could see heavier downpours.

Explaining the timing and scope, Poposki added: "During the second week of November, that is in the period from November 9 to 16, the Atlantic will become active and bring significantly warmer but again more humid air. There will again be new heavier precipitation across the Balkans, and new local rain showers, at times heavier, will occur here in North Macedonia as well."

He also warned of the possibility that the strong southerly flow could carry dust from the Sahara, making the air hazy and mixing particles into precipitation. "This strong southern airflow has the potential to again transport dust and sand from the Sahara to our part of Europe, which could make the atmosphere again hazy and dirty, and the precipitation I expect would be mixed with it — in other words, the rain would be 'dirty'," Poposki emphasized.

Poposki indicated he will publish more detailed analyses in the coming days. The forecast was issued on November 6, 2026 and highlights gusts up to 60–70 km/h, pronounced warming and locally uneven rainfall during November 9–16.
