Emmanuel Macron approval drops to 15% in Ipsos survey

An Ipsos survey published on 11 October 2026 shows French President Emmanuel Macron’s approval rating has fallen to a record low of 15 percent since he took office in 2017. The same poll recorded a 16 percent rating for Macron in the previous month.

Political context and public concerns

The survey comes as France faces renewed social tensions: high-school students have been protesting for three weeks, and public discontent is rising over high fuel prices and declining purchasing power. The poll identifies purchasing power, the future of the social welfare system, and public debt and budget deficit as the primary worries for French citizens.

By contrast, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu scores 22 percent in the poll, up from 20 percent last month. The leader of the far-right, Marine Le Pen, is supported by 32 percent of respondents — four percentage points lower than in the previous survey.

Jordan Bardella, president of the National Rally party, also saw his rating drop to 33 percent from 36 percent in the prior month. Bardella’s name was recently linked to a scandal involving alleged antisemitic messages he is said to have sent years ago; he has denied the accusations in full.

The Ipsos results underline growing public frustration with economic conditions and social policy, and they arrive amid protests and broader debate over the country’s economic outlook.
