Wildfire on inaccessible terrain near Vrzale; aerial action planned from tomorrow

A wildfire has broken out on inaccessible terrain near the village of Vrzale in the Municipality of Zelenikovo, and authorities say air operations are planned to support ground crews starting tomorrow, weather and conditions permitting.

Muhamed Ali, director of the Center for Crisis Management (CCM), shared photos from the scene this afternoon and said he is present on site together with Erol Aliu, deputy commander of the Skopje Fire and Rescue Unit, and crews from the Skopje fire brigade who are working to extinguish the flames and prevent further spread.

Ground effort and equipment

Teams from the Directorate for Protection and Rescue have also been deployed, including two specialized vehicles. The terrain is described by officials as inaccessible, which is preventing a full containment of the fire through ground operations alone.

Ali said he is directing operations from the field and coordinating closely with all engaged teams. He emphasized the priority is to bring the fire under control and continue with all necessary capacities until it is fully extinguished.

"I am following the situation and coordinating it directly from the field, in close cooperation with all engaged teams. Our priority is to bring the fire under control, to localize it and to continue with all necessary capacities until its complete extinguishing," Ali said.

Crews will remain at the scene overnight to monitor any changes and respond quickly and in a coordinated manner. Officials reiterated that the planned aerial intervention will depend on meteorological conditions and the state of the terrain.
