Fire above Paligrad nears homes; firefighters to stay on scene overnight
Teams from the Fire Brigade of the City of Skopje and the Center for Crisis Management are working to contain the blaze; aerial firefighting is scheduled for tomorrow morning.
A wildfire is burning above the village of Paligrad in Zelenikovo Municipality and has drawn close to residential homes, local officials reported.
Teams from the Fire Brigade of the City of Skopje and the Center for Crisis Management (CCM) are operating at the scene and working intensively to contain and localize the blaze, the director of the Center for Crisis Management, Muhamed Ali, said this evening.
Operations and overnight watch
Director Ali said the firefighting crews will remain on site throughout the night to continuously monitor conditions and to react quickly should the fire move nearer to houses.
He announced that an aerial intervention is planned for early tomorrow morning, which authorities expect will help bring the fire fully under control.
Officials have assured that all necessary measures are being taken to protect residents and property in the village of Paligrad while containment efforts continue.
