Wildfire approached houses in Zelenikovo but spread was contained
Rapid response by firefighters, volunteers and residents prevented the flames from reaching nearby houses.
A large wildfire broke out late last night in Zelenikovo municipality, near Skopje, and moved toward the first houses in the settlement before crews and residents contained it.

Firefighters from municipal brigades arrived quickly on scene and, together with local residents, worked to prevent the flames from spreading into the built-up area. Members of the Volunteer Fire Brigade of Zelenikovo also joined the operation.
Officials say the combined response prevented a direct hit on residential buildings and limited damage to surrounding vegetation.
The Center for Crisis Management reported that, across North Macedonia, four active wildfires are burning today; an additional three fires have been brought under control.
Emergency teams remained on site in Zelenikovo into the morning to secure hot spots and reduce the risk of re-ignition. Authorities said they will publish further updates through official channels as the situation develops.
