VMRO‑DPMNE MP Igor Zdravkovski predicts unrest in Serbia after elections

A member of North Macedonia's opposition party VMRO-DPMNE, Igor Zdravkovski, posted on X that he expects unrest to begin in Serbia tonight, linking it to "dissatisfaction with sponsors from the West."

His message was published while Serbians were voting in snap parliamentary elections. In the post Zdravkovski wrote he is unconcerned with who wins but offered a forecast of results and what might follow the vote.

Turnout, queues and security measures

According to Ipsos and CeSID estimates, 60.8% of registered voters had cast ballots in Serbia by 17:00. The Republic Electoral Commission earlier reported turnout of 56.38% by 16:00.

Long lines formed at polling stations across several cities — including Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, Čačak and Šabac — with some voters gathering before polling opened at 07:00. There was also strong participation by Serbs voting abroad.

In central Belgrade metal barricades were installed and police presence increased. Barricades were placed near the "London" junction and on Terazije, while parts of traffic were blocked and public transport rerouted. The Republic Electoral Commission's headquarters is located at Kral Milan Street number 14, and vehicles for riot control were reported in front of the Serbian Presidency.

Observer group CRTA warned about a high number of electoral irregularities and an increasing number of violent incidents outside polling stations, calling on political actors and citizens to lower tensions and refrain from violence. Voting is being held to elect 250 members of parliament and continues until 20:00.
