Police say a 67-year-old was detained after a midday blaze affected dry grass and pallets at his former storage site in Bitola.

Man from Bitola detained on suspicion of starting fire at his former warehouse

A 67-year-old resident of Bitola was detained on Sunday afternoon on suspicion of starting a fire that spread to dry grass and wooden pallets at his former warehouse, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

According to the ministry, the suspect, identified by initials as B. S., was arrested by officers from the Sector for Internal Affairs (SIA) in Bitola after the blaze broke out near his old storage premises.

“On 16.08.2026 at 15:40 hours, police officers from SIA Bitola detained B. S. (67) from Bitola. He is suspected of having caused a fire at around 12:35 on 4 November Street in Bitola, which involved dry grass and wooden pallets in his former warehouse,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

The fire was extinguished by a team from the Territorial Firefighting Unit (TFU) in Bitola, and there were no injuries, the ministry added.

Officers from SIA Bitola inspected the scene and collected evidence. The ministry said that once the investigation and documentation are complete, an appropriate charge will be filed against B. S.
