The reconstruction of Boris Kidrič Street in Shtip — the road linking the city between the Bregalnica River and the Otinja River — will be completed by the end of the week, municipal officials said.

This artery had been plagued by repeated failures of the water and sewer networks. Residents frequently lost access to drinking water for hours while crews worked to locate and repair breaks in the buried pipes.

Work concentrated on a 100–150 metre section where the underlying infrastructure dated back more than 100 years. In that stretch, sewer or water pipes burst "almost every third day," and repairs sometimes took several days to finish.

Final surfacing and reopening scheduled soon

The Municipality of Shtip reported that the complete reconstruction of the underground infrastructure has already been finished. After the second layer of asphalt is laid — expected within a day or two — the street will be opened to traffic.

Officials say the upgrade should end the regular interruptions and reduce the lengthy repair operations that previously left households without water for extended periods.
