SDSM: Conflict of interest by Trajko Slaveski — appointed official who issued Alta Bank licences

The Social Democratic Union (SDSM) accused Governor Trajko Slaveski on Thursday of having a conflict of interest and of installing a person who previously issued licences at Alta Bank.

"Instead of resigning, Governor Trajko Slaveski is making new harmful decisions. Everything he does is to cover up the Alta Bank scandal," SDSM said today, repeating demands that institutions clarify the appointments and responsibilities connected to the bank.

Party demands probe and transparency

SDSM said the appointment was part of an effort to prevent a full accounting of how licences at Alta Bank were issued. The party called on the relevant oversight bodies to open an immediate inquiry and to publish the names and duties of those who signed or approved licences.

The opposition also urged the governor to step down while an investigation is under way, arguing that maintaining his post undermines public trust in the financial regulator and in state institutions charged with supervision.

As context, previous comments from Nedanoska noted that "The situation with Alta Bank will not affect investment decisions in the sector," a statement cited in earlier coverage of the case.

SDSM representatives said they will bring the matter before parliamentary committees if no prompt action is taken, and warned of further political steps to secure a transparent probe.
