Pelister lookout under Stiv peak to be restored; new features planned for Jorgov Kamen and Red Rocks
Pelister National Park and Rotary Club are replacing the ruined timber structure at about 2,000 meters; materials are transported by horses and additional installations are planned.

Work has begun to restore the wooden lookout located at about 2,000 meters above sea level on Mount Pelister, beneath the Stiv peak. The structure — popular for its wide views over the surrounding landscape and the nearby town — had fallen into disrepair and was recently declared unsafe and prohibited from use.
Restoration and new installations
The Pelister National Park and Rotary Club Bitola Shirok Sokak have taken the lead on the project. Crews will replace and reinforce the timber framework so the viewpoint can again be climbed safely.
Construction materials are being carried up the mountain by horses because the location is remote and difficult to access by vehicle. That traditional transport method is enabling work to proceed without heavy machinery on the sensitive mountain terrain.
Officials said the intervention will deliver a renewed wooden structure that meets safety needs and preserves the lookout’s panoramic character. Work planners also announced that new features will be installed at nearby Jorgov Kamen and the Red Rocks to improve visitor experience.
The restoration is intended both to reopen a much‑visited scenic spot and to reduce hazard for hikers and tourists who used the ruined platform before access was restricted.
