Hristijan Mickoski: new Clinical Centre could be near Boris Trajkovski pool

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said the government is weighing two specific sites for the new Clinical Centre in Skopje: the plateau either in front of or behind the Boris Trajkovski swimming pool. He spoke to reporters after the inauguration of the renovated building of the Clinic for Neurophysiology.

Mickoski said the authorities expect to reach a concrete decision very soon, while the question of how the various facilities will be integrated into a broader campus arrangement will be resolved at a later stage.

He added that the government will soon provide detailed information about the future of Clinical Hospital "8 September" and plans for a PET centre, including what types of medical institutions they will become and whether they will be connected to the new centre.

Options previously outlined by health officials

Last year former health minister Azir Aliu listed three options under consideration for a new Clinical Centre in Skopje: reconstruction and modernization of the existing clinical campus; construction of an entirely new Clinical Centre on a different site; or relocation of the whole complex to the area near Clinical Hospital "8 September".

The prime minister’s comments follow the official reopening of the renovated Clinic for Neurophysiology building and form part of a broader government review of major hospital infrastructure and specialist services in the capital.

Officials say they will publish further technical and organisational details in the coming weeks as plans are finalised.
