Seven killed, including attacker, in school shooting in Nonthaburi, Thailand
Attacker identified as a roughly 14‑year‑old ninth‑grade student; two victims remain in critical condition.
Seven people, including the shooter, were killed and at least 15 others were wounded in a school shooting on Friday in Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province in Thailand, authorities said.
The attacker was a ninth‑grade pupil, about 14 years old, according to the provincial police chief, Dehrapi Kongdi. Police said the assailant died at the scene; officials also said a teacher was among those killed and that four other people were injured, three of them students. Two of the wounded are in critical condition.
Security forces secured the school
The incident was reported at about 10:00 a.m. local time at a school in Bang Kruai. Police and special units were dispatched to the location to bring the situation under control, and the investigation is ongoing. The school has said it will issue an official statement.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed condolences to the victims' families and condemned the attack. He said: "This is truly terrifying, it should not have happened. Not only am I sorry for the victims, but I am sorry that this happened. How could this happen in our country" and stressed that the government does not permit citizens to own firearms.
Authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as they work to determine the motive and sequence of events. Hospitals are treating the injured and officials have not yet released a full list of victims.
