Ljubica Shavreska to the Ministry of Health: Oversight finished, report will show if there were failures

Health authorities have completed the review into the case of nurse Ljubica Shavreska, who lost her baby, and a final report is expected to determine whether any mistakes were made in her care.

Minister of Health Sasho Klekovski said in a short written reply that the oversight of the Struga and Ohrid hospitals and the state gynecology clinic has been finalised and that authorities are waiting to finish the report, which should show whether and what shortcomings were found in the treatment.

Shavreska has publicly urged the Health Ministry to provide a clear timeline, medical facts and explanations for every decision or omission, stressing that behind every medical record there is a human life.

What Shavreska asked the authorities

In her public statement Shavreska said: "And to be clear in advance: the answer 'the protocol was followed' is not an answer to my questions. I am not asking whether a protocol existed, but what exactly was done in my case, at what time, with what medical assessment and for what purpose. Behind every medical record stands a human life. In my case, behind those records stands a baby that until the last moment had cardiac activity and a chance for life."

The family of 19-year-old Stanka Mihajlova, who remained immobilised after a cesarean section at the Shtip hospital, is also awaiting answers. A professional commission that included a foreign expert was formed about a month ago, but the results have not yet been released.

Klekovski announced a press conference this week to present findings, but so far there is no concrete information on when the results will be made public.
