Croatia has recorded roughly €37 million in agricultural losses from natural disasters from the start of 2026 through mid‑August, Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries David Vlajčić said during a bilateral meeting at the AGRA fair in Gornja Radgona.
The meeting paired Vlajčić with Slovenia’s Minister of Agriculture Janez Cigler Kral, where both ministers reviewed the impact of droughts, floods, heat waves, plant diseases and pests on crop production, water resources, farmers’ incomes and food supply security. Wider losses and the role of drought
Vlajčić reminded attendees of last year’s scale of damage in Croatia: reported losses to agricultural crops in 2025 amounted to €358 million, and roughly €320 million of that total was attributed to drought.
The Croatian minister stressed that climate change is no longer a future problem and urged stronger emphasis on prevention and adaptation measures rather than relying solely on post‑event assessments and compensation for already incurred damage.
