Siljanovska‑Davkova: We must strengthen proactive diplomacy
The president told the Ambassadorial Council yesterday that a clear national, cross‑party foreign‑policy compass and institutional reform are needed.

President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova urged a stronger, proactive foreign policy in address to the Ambassadorial Council yesterday, calling for a national and cross-party compass to guide North Macedonia’s diplomacy in a changing global order.
She said the emerging multipolar environment and weakened multilateral mechanisms demand both international and European institutional reforms so states can prevent or respond quickly to security threats. At the same time, Siljanovska-Davkova argued, domestic institutions must adapt to the new challenges.
European integration as a wider imperative
In her remarks she stressed that European integration “is no longer only a political” process but has become a strategic, economic, energy, geopolitical, security and demographic imperative — a reality that applies equally to candidate countries and member states.
Siljanovska-Davkova framed proactive diplomacy as an instrument to protect national interests amid shifting alliances and rising competition between global powers. She called for cohesion across party lines so that foreign policy remains consistent and predictable.
The speech comes as Macedonian diplomats in Skopje continue to refine the future tasks of the country’s diplomatic network, a process she indicated should align with the broader reforms and priorities she outlined.
