Gordana Siljanovska‑Davkova in Brussels reiterates North Macedonia's commitment to NATO

President Gordana Siljanovska‑Davkova, during an official working visit to Brussels, met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and restated North Macedonia’s commitment to the Alliance and to collective defence.

According to the president’s office, Siljanovska‑Davkova stressed that allied unity and a strong transatlantic bond are fundamental prerequisites for the security of the members.

Investments in defence and strategic corridors

The president reaffirmed the country’s determination to reach the defence spending target in line with the Hague plan and underlined ongoing investments in the Army’s modernization, cyber-resilience, new technologies and protection of critical infrastructure. She also described Corridors 8 and 10 not merely as infrastructure projects but as strategic routes that link regional cooperation with NATO and European Union security interests, especially for military mobility.

Siljanovska‑Davkova expressed satisfaction with the certification of the Light Infantry Battalion group as combat-ready, calling it proof of the Army’s professionalism and its ability to contribute to NATO-, EU- and UN-led operations.

"Referring to the experience of NATO membership, she noted that meeting the high allied standards should serve as an example for the consistent application of the Copenhagen criteria in the process of European integration," the president’s office said.

The president also reiterated support for Ukraine and the need for continued political, military, financial and humanitarian assistance as an expression of allied solidarity, adding that a comprehensive, just and lasting peace must rest on international law and the UN Charter.
