Skopje woman scammed for 117,000 denars — man posed as Cadastre employee and promised privatization
The victim reported the fraud to the Skopje Police Department after learning the man was not a Cadastre employee.

A 24-year-old woman from Skopje reported to police that she was defrauded of 117,000 denars (about €2,000) after a man who presented himself as an employee of the Cadastre and an accomplice promised to help her purchase and privatize state-owned land used by her family.
How the scheme unfolded
According to the report filed with the Skopje Police Department, the case was officially registered on 22 October 2026 at 14:00. The woman said she had met the two suspects on 21 September 2026, and that one of them had introduced himself as a Cadastre employee and guaranteed a fast and efficient privatization procedure.
Trusting those assurances, the victim paid the suspect in several instalments, handing over a total of 117,000 denars. She discovered the fraud when she personally visited the Cadastre to check the status of the file and was told that the man was not their employee and had not worked there for more than two years.
The Ministry of Interior (MVR) has announced that intensive measures and investigative activities are under way to fully clarify the circumstances and locate the perpetrators. The police said they are treating the case as a criminal fraud investigation.
Authorities have not yet released information about arrests or the identities of the suspects. The investigation remains open as officers follow leads and collect evidence.
Police warn citizens to verify the employment and credentials of individuals claiming to work for public institutions before making payments or providing personal documents related to property transactions.
