Serbian government to propose dissolving parliament and calling elections today

The Serbian government will hold an extraordinary session today at which Prime Minister Džuro Macut is expected to propose dissolving the parliament and calling early elections.
Media in the country report that October 25 is being discussed as the earliest possible date for the vote, because the Serbian electoral code requires elections to take place between 45 and 60 days after they are called.
Party leadership and candidates
The main board of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party has already decided that the party list will be headed by its president, Aleksandar Vučić, who would also be the leading candidate for prime minister if the party again wins the largest number of seats.
Vučić has previously announced he will resign from the presidential role to lead the campaign, even though the law allows him to participate while remaining head of state.
If the government follows through with a proposal to dissolve parliament, formal steps and a timetable must follow the procedure set by the electoral code and parliamentary rules.
