Tajci — from Eurovision 1990 to Nashville: proud mother and film producer

Tajci — the singer who represented Yugoslavia at Eurovision 1990 in Zagreb with the cult hit "Hajde da ludujemo" — has built a new life in the United States while remaining active as a performer and creative producer. Decades after the orange dress and the Merlinka image made her a regional icon, she now lives in Nashville and celebrates a recent milestone linked to her family’s move into film.

At the start of the 1990s Tajci made a decisive break from the Balkans and relocated to the U.S., where she continued her musical education and started a family with her husband Matthew Shane Cameron. The couple had three sons — Dante, Evan and Blais — and remained based in the United States until Matthew’s death in 2017 from lung cancer. Tajci raised the boys as a single mother and kept a steady, creative life.

Son’s festival premiere and a producer credit

Tajci’s pride reached a new peak when her son Blais had his short film, "The View Was Everything," screened in the United States at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival in Georgia. She posted photographs from the festival on Instagram and celebrated the achievement with emotional words.

"It was a special experience to watch his film, inspired by love for Croatia, on the big screen in front of an audience. I am proud of Blais, and also that Croatia was represented at this festival among so many great film works!" she wrote. Tajci’s production company, Cameron Productions, is credited as an executive producer on the film, and she also commented on that professional role: "It is a great honor to be here also in the role of film producer, and the production company Cameron Productions is credited as executive producer on the film. I look forward to new films and all the interesting conversations that await us during this week!"

At the festival Blais even posed on the red carpet alongside Hollywood star Keanu Reeves — a moment his mother shared with the short message: "What an incredible week!" Tajci’s social posts framed the event as both a family triumph and a cultural bridge to the region she once represented on the European stage.

Today Tajci lives in Nashville, Tennessee, and continues to perform, blending jazz, soul and Balkan ethno motifs in her concerts. She is also a certified motivational coach whose talks focus on overcoming trauma and loss. In the United States she has worked on resocialization projects in correctional facilities, and alongside her grown sons she is increasingly active in American film and video production through the family’s Cameron Productions.
