Chad Lowe and Kim Painter announce death of their 13-year-old daughter Fiona Hepler Lowe

Chad Lowe and his wife, producer Kim Painter, announced that their 13-year-old daughter, Fiona Hepler Lowe, has died. The couple asked for privacy as they mourn and urged anyone struggling with mental-health challenges to seek professional help and contact crisis-prevention hotlines.

In an official family statement they said: "Our hearts are deeply broken over the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was a girl full of love, smart, creative and loved to dance. Her sisters adored her, and her parents loved her immeasurably — she was the light of our lives."

Family had faced recent trauma

The statement noted this loss follows a string of traumatic events for the family. In the early spring of 2025 the Lowes lost their home in the devastating wildfires that struck Pacific Palisades, California. Chad has previously spoken publicly about the stress the fires caused and the resilience his daughters showed while coping with the destruction of their home.

Chad Lowe, 58, is the younger brother of actor Rob Lowe and is known for roles in television series such as Pretty Little Liars, Life Goes On and 24. He and Kim Painter have been married since 2010. Fiona was their middle child; their older daughter Maybel is 17 and their youngest, Nixie, is 10.

The family asked for prayers and space to grieve, and used their notice to remind the public about the importance of reaching out for help when facing mental-health struggles. They specifically encouraged people in crisis to contact local emergency and suicide-prevention resources.

Friends and colleagues in the entertainment community have begun to offer condolences publicly as the family prepares private arrangements. The couple has not released further details about the circumstances surrounding Fiona's death.
