Trenchevska: Mickoski lied to farmers, crisis and more expensive food follow

Diesel prices have exceeded 100 denars per liter and have risen by 43% in the past six months — warned today the vice-president of SDSM, Jovana Trenchevska, at a press conference in Skopje.

She accused the Government of not taking concrete measures

Trenchevska said that more expensive fuel directly affects farmers and increases the cost of field work, transport and production, and in the end this will be passed on to food prices.

“Macedonian farmers are directly affected as well. More expensive fuel means more expensive field work, more expensive transport, more expensive production and finally – more expensive food,” added Trenchevska.

According to her, domestic production is decreasing, dependence on imports is growing, and farmers are “barely surviving”.

“Farmers are again protesting today over the purchase prices of peppers, over what Mickoski’s Government promised them but did not deliver. He lied to them. The purchase of peppers is not solved with press conferences, lies and manipulation, but with concrete measures and secure procurement,” said the vice-president of SDSM.

She emphasized that a farmer cannot survive on political promises, but on a real price for their product and good production conditions, and warned that the country's food security is also threatened.

“North Macedonia has land, water, sun, tradition and hardworking farmers. We can produce food for ourselves and for the region. At a time when the whole world is preparing for a global problem with more expensive food, Mickoski’s Government is doing nothing. On the contrary, with VMRO-DPMNE’s policies farmers are barely surviving, domestic production is decreasing, dependence on imports is growing, and food will become increasingly expensive,” Trenchevska said.
