Customs assistant director arrested while taking €17,500
Official detained in a coordinated operation after being found with previously marked banknotes totaling €17,500.
An assistant director in the Sector for Administrative and Technical Affairs at the Customs Administration was arrested after being caught receiving marked cash totalling 17,500 euros, the Ministry of the Interior said.
Police officers detained the official at the moment he accepted the previously marked banknotes. The turnover of the operation was handled by the Department for Combating Organized and Serious Crime within the Ministry of the Interior.
Procedures under way
The investigation is being conducted in coordination with the competent public prosecutor from the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecution of Organized Crime and Corruption. Authorities state that, after the case is fully documented, they will file an appropriate criminal complaint with the public prosecutor's office.
The arrested person is employed as an assistant director in the Customs Administration’s Sector for Administrative and Technical Affairs and was taken into custody following the coordinated police measures.
No additional details about the identity of the official or the alleged motive were released while the investigation continues.
