Two suspects arrested over series of open‑field fires near Macedonski Brod and Dolneni
Two people were detained on 07.08.2026 on suspicion of starting a series of open‑field fires near Macedonski Brod and Dolneni.
On 07.08.2026 at 12:00 in the village of Grešnica, municipality of Macedonski Brod, police officers from OVR Macedonski Brod detained G.S.(45) from Grešnica.
Authorities suspect that G.S. repeatedly set fires in open areas. According to the account of the arrest, yesterday around 11:30 he was caught while igniting a blaze in the area between the village of Grešnica and the village of Slatina, municipality of Macedonski Brod.
Second detention the same day
Later the same day, on 07.08.2026 at 17:00 in the village of Sarandinovo, municipality of Dolneni, police officers from OVR Prilep detained G.A.(76) from Skopje.
G.A. is suspected of having caused fires in open space, and investigators are examining whether the incidents are linked and what the exact causes and consequences of the blazes were.
Both detainees are in police custody while authorities continue their enquiries. Local services and police remind citizens to avoid activities that can spark fires, especially in dry, vegetated areas.
