UJP warns citizens about fake SMS claiming issues with social insurance accounts

The Public Revenue Office (UJP) has issued a warning after citizens reported receiving fraudulent SMS messages that impersonate the institution and attempt to harvest personal or financial data.

The texts include a link and say there is a problem with the "status of the account for social insurance", urging recipients to resolve the alleged issue immediately. The UJP asks people not to open the link or enter any personal, banking or other sensitive information.

How to recognise and respond to a suspicious SMS

  • Do not click links coming from unknown numbers.
  • Never provide personal or bank details in response to an SMS.
  • Verify any unexpected messages through official UJP channels listed below.

"This is a message that may be an attempt at fraud and misuse of personal and financial data," the office said, repeating its appeal that all information about UJP's work be checked exclusively through official channels — the website, e-services, and official telephone numbers and contact addresses.

For further information, the UJP published the following contacts for verification: E-mail: info@ujp.gov.mk, Info center: 0800 33 000 (fixed-line calls only), Telephone: 02 3253 200, Website: www.ujp.gov.mk. Citizens were also urged to share the warning with family and friends to help prevent possible abuse.
