Horrific attack on bus in occupied Luhansk kills nine

A bus was struck in the Russian-occupied Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine, killing nine people, regional authorities appointed by Moscow said on Thursday.

Attack reported on route between Lysychansk and Kadiivka

“In the horrific attack, eight people were killed at the scene, and a 20-year-old woman died of her injuries in hospital,” Leonid Pasechnik, the regional governor appointed by Moscow, wrote via the Russian messaging app Max. He added that the woman’s mother and another 18-year-old woman were also wounded.

The governor said the bus was carrying 15 passengers and was travelling on a route between the cities of Lysychansk and Kadiivka when it was hit.

The incident occurred amid an intensification of Ukrainian strikes, including drone operations, more than four years after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Moscow previously signed documents claiming the annexation of Luhansk and currently exercises full control over the region, according to the authorities in the area.

The attack drew condemnation from local officials who described the strike as “a war crime.”
