Government proposes law converting contracts-for-services into permanent employment
Institutions will have 90 days from the law's entry into force to formalize employment; the parliamentary majority requests urgent procedure.

The Government has submitted a bill to convert existing contracts-for-services into open-ended employment contracts for the people currently engaged under those arrangements.
Under the draft, public institutions would be obliged, within 90 days from the law's entry into force, to sign employment contracts or to issue the administrative decisions that formally transfer those engaged on contracts into permanent staff.
Parliamentary procedure and political reactions
The parliamentary majority plans to push the bill through under urgent procedure. Lawmakers say the move aims to provide job security to workers who now perform regular duties while formally employed on temporary service contracts.
SDSM reacted by saying that during its mandate it had put forward the same proposal, which VMRO-DPMNE rejected.
The draft still needs to pass the Assembly before it becomes law; if approved, institutions will start the 90-day deadline from the moment the law takes effect.
