Police issued 606 fines in August and impounded 18 electric scooters
Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted nationwide intensified checks; the largest number of violations was registered in Bitola.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), through its Traffic Sector, carried out intensified enforcement checks across the country during August focused on drivers of electric scooters.
Officers recorded a total of 606 traffic violations related to electric scooters. Because of more serious breaches, 18 electric scooters were temporarily impounded for a period of 30 days.
Most common violations and regional totals
The most frequent offences were 162 fines for not wearing a reflective vest at night and 134 sanctions for failing to use bicycle or pedestrian lanes. Additionally, 59 riders were penalized for not wearing helmets, and 45 fines were issued for carrying two people on one scooter. Controls also revealed that 20 minors had been transported on scooters.
By police area, the highest number of scooter-related violations was registered at SVR Bitola with 236 cases, followed by SVR Skopje with 97, Strumica 82, Ohrid 57, Tetovo 27, Veles 18, Shtip 13 and the fewest — 7 — in Kumanovo. The Mobile Traffic Safety Unit issued 69 of the recorded violations.
The MIA also reported that, alongside scooter checks, police recorded 3,665 other traffic offences during the same period. Authorities urged all road users to obey traffic rules and said intensified operations will continue.
