Protest march in Skopje on September 27 in support of former KLA leaders

A protest march in support of former KLA leaders convicted in The Hague will take place on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. The rally is scheduled to start at Skanderbeg Square in Skopje and was announced by the event’s Organisational Council.

“This is not a matter of a political party or group, but a matter that affects an important part of our shared history. We invite the families of the martyrs, veterans and the disabled, former prisoners and the politically persecuted, the Islamic Religious Community, students, professors, academics, intellectuals and artists, civil society and all freedom-loving citizens,” announced Fejri Asipi.

Asipi additionally called on Albanian political parties and citizens to join the march, saying the initiative is aimed at showing public support for those convicted in The Hague.

Planned turnout and organisers

The Organisational Council named the families of those who died, veterans, people with disabilities, former prisoners and those who suffered political persecution among the groups it expects to attend. Religious communities, students, educators, the cultural and academic sectors, and civil society organisations were included in the invitation.

Authorities in Skopje have not announced any official permission or security arrangements linked to the march. Organisers say the gathering will begin at the stated time on Skanderbeg Square.

Participants and the public were urged to follow any further instructions from the Organisational Council ahead of Sunday’s event.
