Assembly conference on parliamentary oversight and EU enlargement
Two sessions in Skopje will examine tools for parliamentary oversight and possible scenarios for changes to the EU accession methodology; the programme begins at 9:30.
The Assembly will host a conference titled "Regional Cooperation for EU Integration" focused on strengthening parliamentary oversight and on possible shifts in the EU enlargement process.
The programme opens at 9:30 with the session "Guardians of reform processes: How to strengthen parliamentary oversight over the reform agenda?" Simonida Katsarska, director of the Institute for European Policy, is scheduled to speak, followed by a joint discussion among participants.
Programme and objectives
Organisers say the morning session will examine strategies and tools that parliaments across the Western Balkans can use to monitor implementation of the reform agenda, with the stated aim of turning reform commitments into concrete and transparent progress.
The second part of the conference begins at 11:30 with the session "From policy papers to reality: possible scenarios for a new course in the enlargement process." Aleksandar Andrija Pejović will address that session, which will also include an open discussion.
According to the organisers, the latter session will provide an overview of current EU policies and developments related to potential changes in the accession methodology and assess how those changes could affect the future trajectory of enlargement.
The conference brings together lawmakers, experts and stakeholders from the region to discuss parliamentary roles in oversight and the practical implications of evolving EU accession rules.
