Tetovo council approves higher water tariffs: households to pay 22.2 den/m3
Council approved higher tariffs tied to the regulator's 2027–2029 decision; opposition demanded full calculations.

The Municipal Council of Tetovo approved new water tariffs at a session held today: household drinking water will be charged at 22.2 denars per cubic metre instead of the previous 20 denars.
Opposition asks for detailed calculations
Opposition councillors criticised the move and demanded a fuller explanation of the rise, which represents roughly a 17.75 percent increase in the household water price. "It is a dramatic increase in price of about 17.75 percent. You cite a decision by the Regulatory (Commission), at least provide us with an explanation; we have not received the explanation. Therefore I request a joint calculation of how much they pay today and how much they will pay for water and sewage in each of the next three years," said Bobi Ilievski – Levica.
The new amounts were determined according to the rulebook, methodology and instructions for setting tariffs, following a decision by the Regulatory Commission for Energy and Water Services for the regulated period 2027–2029, the director of the municipal water and sewage company said.
"Every three years we must, we need to adopt a business plan for JKP Shari outlining what we will invest for the three years and the costs the enterprise will incur," said Valjon Zeqiri – director of JKP Shari.
Besides households, all other users — including institutions, legal entities and healthcare facilities — will face a higher charge of 31.55 denars per cubic metre of consumed water, and there will also be new rates for wastewater removal.
Council members did not release a detailed, itemised projection at the session showing how the new tariffs will affect bills year by year, a point the opposition insisted must be calculated and presented publicly.
