The Center for Public Health, together with the Municipality of Kisela Voda, is carrying out an extraordinary disinsection operation today (August 12, 2026) in the Dracevo neighbourhood aimed at preventing mass mosquito breeding.

Specialised field teams are focused on eliminating larvae: crews are applying an approved larvicide at critical points, including drainage channels, areas of stagnant water and other damp locations where water accumulates and supports mosquito development.

Further spraying planned against adult mosquitoes

The municipality said the campaign will continue on Friday (August 14, 2026) with field spraying targeting adult mosquitoes across this part of Kisela Voda. The two-step approach — larvicide now, adulticide later — is intended to reduce the overall insect population more effectively.

Authorities also noted that a West Nile fever epidemic has been declared in several Skopje municipalities, heightening the public-health rationale for the intensified measures.

The Municipality of Kisela Voda reminded beekeepers to take timely steps to protect their bee colonies ahead of the planned adult-mosquito spraying on Friday. Residents were urged to remove standing water where possible and to follow any additional guidance from public-health teams.
