2nd Infantry Battalion marks 34th anniversary with parade in Shtip

The 2nd Infantry Battalion marked its 34th anniversary with a ceremonial parade today at the Jane Sandanski barracks in Shtip, the unit’s home base.

Ceremony and role within the Army

Soldiers from the battalion took part in a large parade inside the barracks as military and civilian guests observed the anniversary event. The unit has been a key element of the Army since its founding and celebrated its role with the public ceremony in Shtip.

The battalion’s commander underlined the unit’s integration into international operations after North Macedonia’s accession to NATO: since 27 March 2020 the unit is also counted among the Alliance’s principal formations and regularly participates in joint drills and missions abroad.

"Our units are equal within NATO and so far in the large number of joint exercises and peace missions they have demonstrated that they stand shoulder to shoulder with the other units. As early as 1996 a unit of our Army took part for the first time in the military maneuvers 'Miroven orel' and in military exercises outside our country. This was followed by numerous multinational and national exercises at home and abroad such as 'Brz odgovor 2025', then the exercise 'Blesok 2026' and other joint maneuvers," said Lieutenant Colonel Risto Stoev, commander of the 2nd Infantry Battalion.

Organizers said the anniversary underlined the battalion’s continuing operational readiness and its contributions to multinational cooperation and peacekeeping tasks.
