Prisoner from Skopje arrested in Ohrid after attack on former girlfriend
He was on weekend leave from Idrizovo Prison and will face criminal charges, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
A prisoner from Skopje, who had been released on weekend leave from the correctional facility Idrizovo Prison, was arrested in Ohrid for physically attacking his former girlfriend.
The police detained R.S. (26) on August 5, 2026 at 3:50 PM in Ohrid, and the injured woman sustained injuries from the attack, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
What the police said
"On August 5, 2026 at 3:50 PM in Ohrid, police officers from the Ohrid Police Department detained R.S. (26) from Skopje. While he was using leave from the Correctional Institution Idrizovo Prison, where he was serving a five-year prison sentence, he met his former girlfriend in Ohrid and then physically attacked her. After full documentation of the incident, an appropriate charge will be filed against him," the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
The police say that the person was on temporary leave from the prison and that full documentation of the incident, collection of evidence and preparation of charges will follow.
The convicted person now faces additional legal consequences beyond the sentence he is already serving, and the competent public prosecutor's office will decide on the formal scope of the charge after receiving the materials from the police.
