AMSM warns of landslide danger on four road sections
Automobile and Motorcycle Association of Macedonia urges drivers to obey signs, reduce speed and take care especially in valleys and gorges.
Published 05 September, 2026 13:30 — The Automobile and Motorcycle Association of Macedonia (AMSM) has issued a safety advisory urging motorists to exercise extra care because of an increased risk of landslides on several road sections.
Road stretches with elevated landslide risk
AMSM singled out routes that pass through basins, river valleys and narrow gorges as particularly vulnerable. The association warned drivers to respect traffic signs, avoid exceeding speed limits and adapt their driving to local conditions.
The specific sections highlighted are: Katlanovo to Veles; the corridor from Mavrovo through Debar to Struga; the road between Vinica and Berovo; and the stretch from Kocani to Delchevo. On those segments, falling rocks and slope failures are possible especially after heavy rain or rapid weather changes.
Motorists were reminded that careful driving and obeying traffic signals become even more important when traffic volumes rise. AMSM also urged drivers to keep safe following distances and to be prepared to slow or stop if they encounter debris on the carriageway.
The association said the advisory is intended to reduce accidents and disruptions while work or inspections are carried out where needed, and recommended that drivers plan routes and travel times accordingly to avoid the most exposed sections when possible.
