Municipalities in Skopje are again easing the financial burden on parents of first-graders by providing backpacks, school supplies and one-off cash support ahead of the new school year.

In the Municipality of Gjorche Petrov the local authorities said they will supply backpacks for the 410 children who will start first grade on September 1. Mayor Aleksandar Stojkoski announced that each of the 410 pupils will receive an anatomical backpack, school supplies, a free snack and a one-off cash support of 3,000 denars.

“Together with our little friends from the Rosica kindergarten — the future first-graders, we chose the anatomical backpacks and school supplies that each child will receive at the start of their school journey. We ease the burden for parents and create a nice beginning for our youngest,” said mayor Aleksandar Stojkoski.

The neighbouring municipality of Butel will also provide an ergonomic backpack and a full school kit for its incoming first-graders, and additionally will hand out free school uniforms. Officials in Butel estimate the package saves parents roughly 9,000 denars in outlays for the start of school.

The Butel school pack will include, together with a high-quality anatomical backpack, a counting aid, a drawing pad, wooden crayons, felt-tip pens, modelling clay, pencils, an exercise notebook, pencil sharpeners and erasers, the municipality said. Mayor Darko Kostovski commented on the measure.

Separately, the Municipality of Gazi Baba will again give 3,000 denars to each first-grader this year as part of its preparatory support for families.
