Completion of new Štip Clinical Hospital estimated at 109 million euros

On July 30, 2026, the Minister of Health Sasho Klekovski, the director of the Health Insurance Fund Zlatko Perinski, the mayor of the Municipality of Shtip Ivan Yordanov, representatives of the Clinical Hospital in Shtip and a delegation from the World Bank held a meeting on completing and fully equipping the new hospital complex in Shtip.

The planned investment amounts to nearly 6.7 billion denars, or 109 million euros, with the aim of providing the Eastern region with a modern regional health center. The project includes completion of the main building, procurement of modern medical equipment and the functional integration of departments.

On the goals and importance of the project the minister said: "Completing the Clinical Hospital in Shtip is an obligation to the citizens of eastern Macedonia. We want patients here to receive timely and quality health services, and for health workers and students to have modern conditions for work, practical training and professional development" - Klekovski said.

Audits, tender and timelines

At the meeting technical and financial analyses, the financing model, project documentation and mechanisms for controlling quality, costs and deadlines were reviewed. As announced, audits of the current situation are expected to be ready within two months, which will serve as the basis for issuing an international call for completion.

Let us allow three months for the selection of the supplier and the signing of the contract. We will work with companies with an international reputation and the capacity to finish the work. We now also have some experience with the reconstructions of the operating blocks at '8 September' and at the Clinical Center, which are the most sensitive and most expensive parts of this undertaking, so I think we can make wise decisions so that there are no problems like those that occurred in the previous period with the execution of the works" - Klekovski said.

The minister noted that the financial execution of the project so far is around 30 percent and explained which parts of the construction have already been carried out and which represent the more expensive, technically intensive portion.

"- In the new hospital the financial part is at 30 percent of the projected amounts, however the completed works are in terms of carried out craft works and similar because that is the cheaper, so to speak, part of the execution, while the more expensive part is the mechanical, the operating block, and of course the new equipment that we need to provide for the hospital. So, financially the execution is 30 percent. It is a closed shell with most of the facade closed and with most of the installations already completed" - Klekovski said.

As clarified, what remains is to complete the operating block and bring in the equipment. Then a second phase will follow in which old buildings will be demolished, renovated and joined into a single functional unit.

"- We are talking about the first phase of the work. The second phase includes demolition of old buildings, their renovation, construction and joining into one functional whole" - Klekovski emphasized.

The Clinical Hospital in Shtip is the only clinical regional center in the eastern part of the country and provides health services to nearly 150,000 residents, while the wider catchment area covers approximately 250,000 residents. The Ministry expects that upon completion diagnoses, treatment and emergency care will improve, the need to refer patients to Skopje will decrease, and better conditions will be created for the development and retention of medical staff. Strict supervision and transparency by the competent institutions have been announced at all stages.
