DUI: Government redirects resources from Corridor 8 to Prilep–Bitola highway
The party says on-site work favors Corridor 10D by nearly 4 to 1 and requests exact figures for personnel, machinery and funds.
The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) accused the Government on 7 August 2026 of shifting personnel, machinery and funds from the Corridor 8 route to accelerate construction of the Prilep–Bitola section, part of Corridor 10D, allegedly so the segment will be completed before the next parliamentary elections.
"The new information emerging about the country's largest infrastructure project, Corridors 8 and 10D, is deeply alarming.
According to the information we have, work on the ground is proceeding at an almost 4 to 1 ratio in favor of Corridor 10D, Prilep–Bitola, while machinery, labour and the pace of implementation have been shifted to the detriment of Corridor 8.
Both segments are part of the same project we secured with Bechtel-Enka. Today, the Government is effectively changing the project's priority.
Because of a political order that Corridor 10D be finished by the next elections in the spring, so that the Government can present it as an electoral project.
If this is confirmed, it is a serious scandal: public money, workers and machinery on a state project are being directed according to the ruling parties' electoral calendar.
Corridor 8 is a NATO strategic corridor, part of the east–west link from the Adriatic Sea to the Black Sea and the Alliance's southeastern flank. Any intentional delay of this corridor has consequences that go far beyond domestic politics," the party said.
Demands and value of the project
DUI called the alleged reallocation an electoral misuse of a project it said is worth more than one billion euros and demanded that the Government disclose how many workers, how much machinery and how much money are currently engaged on Corridor 10D (Prilep–Bitola) compared to Corridor 8.
The party said that, if verified, the practice would amount to directing state resources in line with the electoral calendar of the ruling parties and warned that postponing Corridor 8 would have strategic implications beyond domestic priorities.
