Filipče: They are working on the French proposal under the radar — and who goes on an excursion to Brussels in the middle of summer?
The SDSM leader argues that every government promise on European integration has been exposed: the name will not be restored, the Prespa Agreement will not be annulled, and what they called treason for four years is now being quietly accepted
The leader of SDSM, Venko Filipče, assessed that the government is holding talks on the country’s European path far from the public eye, and that this confirms the complete unravelling of the policies on which it came to power.
"There is already an announcement, there is already a statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs that something is being done on the European path under the radar," Filipče said, pointing out that citizens learn about key steps from statements rather than from an open and reasoned position of the government.
In his view, the promises from the campaign period are falling one after another. "First, it is obvious that they will not restore the name, as President Siljanovska Davkova promised," the SDSM leader said.

The same, he added, applies to the loudest promise of all, the one about the Prespa Agreement. "It is obvious that they will not annul the Prespa Agreement; on the contrary, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski stated that it is a masterpiece of European diplomacy," Filipče said, recalling the rhetoric of the very same people when they were asking for votes.
His most direct assessment concerned the French proposal, the document over which the fiercest political battle of recent years was waged. "Here, now, under the radar, it is obvious that work is under way on accepting the French proposal," Filipče said.
As confirmation he pointed to the announced trip of the Prime Minister to Brussels, using irony that says more than a long analysis. "The announced so-called excursion of the Prime Minister to Brussels is only one more confirmation of that. Who goes on an excursion to Brussels in the middle of summer?" he asked.
From all of this, according to Filipče, follows a conclusion that takes the debate four years back. "This is only proof and confirmation that everything they said is a lie, that it is slander, and that it is not true that SDSM pursued treacherous policies," the SDSM leader said, assessing that it was precisely the blockade of the European path in recent years that damaged the country.
