Background of the session
The meeting had been convened by the winning party, Vetëvendosje, despite objections from opposition forces and some constitutional law experts. Opponents argued that the 30-day period for constituting the parliament, set by the Constitutional Court, had already expired on Friday.
The incident occurred after Kurti asked the president of the Assembly for extra time to continue negotiations with opposition parties in search of a political agreement. His request was granted by the presiding chair.
Media and attendees reported a tense atmosphere in the chamber as several opposition MPs approached the podium and threw eggs in the direction of the acting prime minister. Security intervened to restore order and remove the immediate disturbance.
The session continued after the brief disruption, with party representatives and lawmakers returning to debate the steps needed to form the new parliamentary majority and government.
