Boy injured on Bodrum waterslide to be flown home on government plane
A medical team will travel with the boy after Turkish authorities and domestic institutions approved air evacuation.
A boy from North Macedonia who fractured a cervical vertebra after falling from a waterslide in Bodrum will be flown home tomorrow on the government plane, officials said.
The teenager was admitted to a hospital in Turkey following the accident, but the injury is too serious to allow transport on a regular commercial flight or by road ambulance, prompting the request for government-assisted repatriation.
Preparations for the medical evacuation are in their final stage after the parents asked Macedonian authorities to arrange a safe return. A medical team will accompany the patient on board to monitor his condition during the flight.
Approvals and institutional backing
Turkish health authorities gave permission for air transport instead of transfer by medical vehicle. At the parents' request, the Health Insurance Fund approved the evacuation, and the decision has the support of the Ministry of Health.
On arrival in North Macedonia the boy is expected to continue treatment at a domestic healthcare facility chosen by his family and doctors.
The Government has also voiced that the incident underlines the need to acquire a new government aircraft to ensure safe and timely medical repatriations in similar cases.
