Ministry: Alarm at renovated Stiv Naumov dorm triggered twice

The Ministry of Education and Science reported problems at the recently renovated Stiv Naumov student dormitory in Skopje, citing several incidents that occurred during use. The ministry's statement, published on 24 October 2026 08:18, lists sewage blockages, damaged equipment and misuse of shared spaces among the issues encountered.

One of the sewage blockages was attributed to wet wipes that had been thrown into the system. In addition, dorm management documented a detached radiator, vehicles parked on green areas in the building’s yard, and activation of the alarm system on two separate occasions.

What triggered the alarms

The ministry specified that the alarm was triggered twice: once because food was left in a microwave in the tea kitchen while the appliance remained switched on, and once because of a lit cigarette in a student room. These incidents prompted the ministry to highlight the role of user behaviour in creating some of the observed problems.

Officials noted that certain shortcomings can emerge during the regular use of a facility, but emphasised that some problems appear to be the result of irresponsible conduct by residents. The ministry said it had registered the incidents with the dormitory’s administration and expects continued attention to proper use and upkeep.

The statement did not list disciplinary measures or further technical remedies, instead focusing on the combination of routine wear and improper behaviour as contributing factors to the reported defects.
