Ministry of Interior: 17 detained for traffic offences, including underage moped crash and 2.92‰ case

Police detained 17 people across the country during traffic enforcement operations in the last 24 hours; one additional person was interviewed by officers on suspicion of reckless driving under Article 297‑a of the Criminal Code.

Key offences and incidents

Ten of those stopped were driving without having passed the driving exam. Authorities said the measures were taken at multiple locations as part of routine checks and targeted controls.

In Vinica a 14‑year‑old minor lost control of a moped and fell before reaching the legal age to drive motor vehicles. Officers also conducted an official interview with E.E. (19) from Veles, who was involved in a collision while riding an unregistered motorcycle and who, like others mentioned, had not obtained the right to drive.

Five people were found driving under the influence of alcohol and two individuals were caught driving despite an active ban on their driving privileges. A resident of the village of Musinci, Mogila municipality, was measured at 2.92 per mille blood alcohol concentration while driving and is among those detained.

After full documentation of the cases, the competent authorities will submit appropriate criminal charges and other procedural measures, the police said.

“We particularly urge parents not to allow minors to operate motor vehicles before they obtain the legal right to do so,” the Ministry of Interior said in today’s statement.
