Veles lifts ban on drinking water from Bashino Selo spring and Ivankovci supply
Municipality of Veles says tests on 7, 11 and 14 September found the natural spring in Shorka and several village sources compliant with drinking-water rules.
The several-month ban on drinking water from a natural spring in Bashino Selo and from the Ivankovci village supply has been lifted, the Municipality of Veles announced. The prohibition had been imposed by the Agency for Food and Veterinary (AHV) after water-quality irregularities were detected.
Recent tests show compliant results for several sources
Samples taken by the Center for Public Health (CPH) Veles on 7, 11 and 14 September showed that water from the natural fountain in the Shorka area — which, like the Bashino Selo spring, is widely used by Veles residents for drinking — is now safe to consume.
The municipality also reported that the supply in the village of Slivnik meets the required standards, as does the water from the school and the village fountain in Crkvino. All these sources comply with the legal requirements for drinking-water safety.
Local officials said the AHV initially ordered the ban because laboratory analyses had identified deviations in water quality. After follow-up testing by CPH Veles returned acceptable results, the restrictions were removed.
Residents who rely on these springs and local supplies were urged to follow any additional guidance issued by municipal health authorities and to report any changes in taste, smell or appearance of the water.
