Tetovo hospital hands out 109 employment decisions; director denies politicisation

In the amphitheatre of the Tetovo Clinical Hospital a ceremony was held during which 109 health workers received formal employment decisions from the public institution.

The event featured the presence of Tetovo Mayor Bilal Kasami and Chair of Čair Municipality Izet Medzhiti, who participated in handing out documents. Health Minister Sasho Klekovski and First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for European Affairs Bekim Sali were also present.

On his Facebook page Mayor Kasami posted a message celebrating the new hires: "We are strengthening the hospital's capacities and improving health services for the citizens of Tetovo and the Polog region. I congratulate the health workers who received their employment decisions today and wish them successful work. Investing in people and in health is an investment in the future of our city. We will continue to work so that the Tetovo hospital has the staff, conditions and capacities that our citizens deserve. Soon also a full reconstruction of the Tetovo hospital," he wrote.

Questions about organisers and roles

The Ministry of Health said the hospital itself organised the ceremony and that invitations and the event script were prepared by the institution. "The hosts were from the Tetovo Clinical Hospital. They sent the invitations for the event and prepared the scenario," the ministry said.

Erzen Elezi, director of the Tetovo Clinical Hospital, rejected suggestions that the occasion was politicised. He said the two municipal leaders were invited in their capacity as mayors, not as party co-chairs, and that distribution of the decisions was primarily carried out by hospital officials and ministers.

"There was nothing political. The minister Bekim Sali, minister Sasho Klekovski and I gave out employment decisions. They were not invited as co-chairs of Vlen, but as mayors. We invited them to pay them respect and we gave them to hand out five employment decisions each. They didn't have speeches at the event, and it wasn't planned for them to hand out decisions, but in the end we decided to honour them and gave them to hand them out," Elezi said.

The Ministry added that the ceremony effectively completes a programme to hire 1,500 multiannual contract workers, and that a separate project to hire 600 specialist doctors is expected to be finalised soon.
